Hayek is the first to admit that liberal democracy and capitalism have their own inherent ills, but he also correctly, in my opinion points out that in all the alternative systems, individuals are much worse off – in materially, jurdicially and politically. The underlying beliefs are those of the modern libertarian that somehow markets always sort themselves out when l I found this book to be obvious and tedious. There is almost no convincing examples of the key topics that Hayek is highlighting in socialism, but rather rdumul to someone else saying some of their thoughts about socialism.
SS is not a strong argument.
Hayek, wervitute Marx, then drew logical conclusions about socialism that underestimated the flexibility of Socialist systems. The early 20th century diction was too much, and the references to Germany as a socialist state made me chuckle a little. Socialism is not the establishment of an eight-hour day, not die abolition of child labor, not the enforcement of pure food laws, not the putting down of die Night Riders, or the enforcement of the cent gas law.
For a sort of liberal like me I thought this was an interesting book.

A free market, says Hayek, ensures the impartiality of the system regarding each individual. Ya, buku ini penting di dalam sejarah.
For a not-so-lefty lefty like me I didn’t realise this was a critique of the left. So in essence, the socialist wants to abolish individual freedom – “freedom without economic and political equality isn’t worth having”.
Written in in England it is still relevant today. That’s too easy to prove false. I must agree with Hayek on his points that centralized planning inevitably leads to accumulation of power, and it poses organizational problems that simply cannot be overcome.

I recognize its impact around the time it was written, but it has limited relevance today – not zero, but the world is a different place, and anything beyond broad generalizations socialism generally leads to totalitarianism seems outdated. He deems it likely that the Unions will block the attempts of the government and the companies to lower the wages, and I cannot help but wonder if the later crises – for which Margaret Thatcher is so well-known – are the delayed result of the second World War.
